Feline anemia PCR panel

Test code:
P0040
- Qualitative detection and differentiation of the following feline bloodborne agents using real time PCR and reverse transcription coupled real time PCR protocols:

Screening can prevent the spread of these pathogens from potentially infected carriers when moving new cats into an existing group. Cats may carry some of these pathogens for years without symptoms, and these pathogens can be spread by bites, or even by close contact between cats without direct exposure to blood.

Treatment and quarantine protocols differ among these pathogens, and can be costly and stressful for animals and owners. The Zoologix feline anemia PCR panel is a powerful, cost-effective diagnostic tool that uses highly specific and sensitive PCR test protocols to enable rapid, accurate diagnosis. Unlike immunological tests for these pathogens, PCR is not affected by past vaccinations.

All four assays are run from one small blood sample, eliminating multiple draw requirements.

Utilities:

  • Help confirm the pathogen causing generalized symptoms
  • Selection of appropriate treatment regimen
  • Shorten the time required to confirm a clinical diagnosis
  • Help ensure that cat populations are free of the listed pathogens
  • Determine whether serology positives are due to vaccines rather than infection with the disease agent
  • Early prevention of spread of the listed pathogens
  • Minimize human exposure to the listed pathogens
  • Safety monitoring of biological products that derive from susceptible animals

Specimen requirement: 0.5 ml whole blood in EDTA (purple top) tube.

Contact Zoologix if advice is needed to determine an appropriate specimen type for a specific diagnostic application. For specimen types not listed here, please contact Zoologix to confirm specimen acceptability and shipping instructions.

For all specimen types, if there will be a delay in shipping, or during very warm weather, refrigerate specimens until shipped and ship with a cold pack unless more stringent shipping requirements are specified. Frozen specimens should be shipped so as to remain frozen in transit. See shipping instructions for more information.

Turnaround time: 3 business days

Methodology: Qualitative real time PCR and qualitative reverse transcription coupled real time PCR

Normal range: Nondetected
