Psittacine PCR screening panel
NOTE: THIS PANEL IS NOT PERFORMED
ON SAMPLES TAKEN FROM BIRDS OWNED OR LOCATED IN THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA.
Test code:
P0026
- Psittacine screening panel detects and
differentiates three common, clinically
significant pathogens in parrots and other
psittacine bird species, by real time PCR:
Avian polyoma
virus
Chlamydia
psittaci
Psittacine beak and
feather disease
When parrots and other psittacines are moved and
integrated into new flocks, it is often prudent
to screen in order to identify asymptomatic
carriers and avoid the spread of these diseases.
The Zoologix psittacine PCR screening panel is a
powerful but economical tool for diagnosing
these pathogens. The entire panel is run from
one cloacal swab or a small-volume blood sample,
eliminating multiple sampling requirements.
Highly sensitive and specific results are
reported by email or fax three business days
after sample receipt.
Utilities:
-
Help ensure that psittacine flocks and facilities are free of
these pathogens
-
Early prevention of spread of these pathogens among and
between flocks
-
Help confirm disease causing agent
-
Shorten the time required to confirm clinical diagnosis
and differentiation of infection by several
clinically significant pathogens of
psittacines
-
Minimize human exposure to these pathogens
Preferred specimen:
Cloacal swab, or 0.2 ml whole blood in EDTA (purple top) tube, or 0.2 ml feces.
Contact Zoologix if advice is needed to determine an appropriate specimen type for a specific diagnostic application. For specimen types not listed here, please contact Zoologix to confirm specimen acceptability and shipping instructions.
For all specimen types, if there will be a delay
in shipping, or during very warm weather,
refrigerate specimens until shipped and ship
with a cold pack unless more stringent shipping
requirements are specified. Frozen specimens
should be shipped so as to remain frozen in
transit. See shipping
instructions for more information.
Turnaround time:
